Group Bike Ride Union Dale – Ararat
September 29, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join us on September 29th @ 10am at the Union Dale trailhead (948 N. Main St Union Dale PA) for a group bike ride on the D&H Rail-Trail. We will bike north (7.5 miles) to Ararat on our newly improved trail and back (15 miles total) For those of you new to this stretch of trail it will not disappoint, we will bike through picturesque wooded areas, over slow moving creeks, past a series of ponds and wetlands all with expanding views of Susquehanna County. Doesn’t that sound great?
You will also be surprised to learn that as we traveling North on the D&H Rail-Trail there is a gradual increase in elevation until we reach Ararat – the highest elevation on the trail. ( see table below) Don’t let the grade discourage you from biking the D&H north. The grade is hardly noticeable to a biker and just makes for an easier trip back south!
And for those interested in learning more about the history of this stretch of trail Lynn Conrad, executive director of Rail-Trail Council, will take a few short breaks to fill listeners in on all things interesting and historical.
A sneak peak: Railroaders referred to this highpoint as Ararat Summit, a “lofty tableland” at 2040 ft above sea level. You’ll see from the table that the largest gain in elevation is from Carbondale to Forest City, thus the need for impressive assemblages of engine power, like the Challenger!
Forest City 1500’
Union Dale 1630’
Herrick Center 1700’
Bring water, bug spray, a snack and dress appropriately. Invite your family and friends and we will see you on the trail.
